It’s been every City Councilor and Mayor’s dream for the last 30 years! A Choo-Choo train of their own. The Council spent $84 million on “Union Station” in downtown Raleigh. What? You’ve never been there? Com’on!
Since the Light Rail Project failed for lack of Federal and local support in 2019 and not being able to get a mere $275 million more out of us selfish taxpayers, the program was abandoned. 🙁 After three years of likely crying, Mayor Baldwin is smiling again on her way to Miami to “check out” their Tri-Rail commuter train!!! (Whose ridership seems to have dropped about 4.3%.) The Miami Choo-Choo has a 76-mile route. Their best day ever was June 16, 2011, also known as Dump the Pump Day, when 19,731 people ditched their cars. The second-highest ridership happened on June 23, 2006, the day of the Miami Heat victory parade, with 18,613 riders. |

Wake Up Raleigh Politicians – Here are the facts from the Census Bureau, in April 2021
- Public Transportation Commuters (not just Choo-Choo trains) are concentrated in large metro areas of the United States. generally in the northeast, with New York being #1.
- About 5% of all U.S. workers in 2019 commuted by public transportation.
- 0.59% of people in this country use “commuter rail or long-distance trains” (Amtrak?)
- Workers commuting by public transportation fell from 12.1% in 1960 to around 5.0% in 2019.
- Most of the 0.59% using “Choo-Choo Trains” are in big metro areas like Miami and New York.
- If this Triangle rail was as successful as Miami’s Tri-Rail, then it would serve about 11,900 people in Raleigh/Durham. (Hey! Let’s call this project ” Triangle Try Rail…pleeeeeease?”)
- Reality? Based on our size and the proposed station sites, do you think we could serve almost 1,000 woke people a day? Probably not.
So Triangle “Leaders”, (more than 75 of you!!) who traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida this week, PLEASE do us, taxpayers, a favor? Head down to South Beach in Miami, walk Ocean Blvd along the beach, and take in a Drag Show or something, on us. Really, relax and have fun, but give up this ridiculous project, that we didn’t ask for, don’t get a vote on, and will cost real money out of our pockets AGAIN.
And there’s a great Drag Show, outside the Palace Restaurant in South Beach. (1052 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL). It’s a really woke thing to do and you’ll love it.
Friends, we have got to stop this City Council. I know you don’t care about politics but just for one day on November 8, 2022, vote and throw every one of these City Councilors and Mayor Baldwin out of office. That one hour of your time is going to literally save you thousands of dollars year after year if you stay in Raleigh.
