OK, pop-quiz.
Name 3 pro-football players; living or dead.
Name 3 pro-baseball players; living or dead.
Name 3 pro-basketball players; living or dead.
Name 1 pro-soccer player; living or dead, who’s not a child.
That says it all. Americans don’t give a damn about soccer so why is the City of Raleigh putting $500 Millon dollars of tax-payer money into a Professional Soccer stadium downtown when:
- We don’t give a damn about soccer
- Major league soccer isn’t going to expand the league so we can get a team
- Charlotte already has a “fledgling franchise” soccer team already.
- Cary’s FC soccer team draws about 6,000 people per game to its stadium. Hurricanes average 13,320 per game; Carolina Panthers, 273,772 is NC Central University Football 35,200,
- We don’t give a damn about soccer
The city council’s duty is to simply be an administrator of government services, and if enough citizens are suggesting that there is a great need for services above, Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Roads without tolls, we’ll let you know. Did anyone out there say we need a soccer team and stadium? WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THINKING?
What is your goal? To spend $500 million of our tax dollars so Raleigh can be Woke? That’s not on my list. You are just going to make us (more) broke. And no, I won’t vote for a bond to fund this. But our Woke mayor is thinking of draining the hotel restaurant taxes for the money. (And as a business traveler we hate that tax and it makes us pick other cities to use if we have that opinion.
[draft blog. I’ll clean it but want to publish now since the N&O just put out a story on this.]
