I’ve lived in Woke County for 30 years and most of it, in North Raleigh. The Raleigh city council has a long history of poor financial decisions and wasteful spending. This has got to stop.
Most people don’t care about the city council and they shouldn’t. (5 – 15% voter turnout) After all, we expect that they are just administrators making sure that we get our basic city services. That’s not the case. For 30 years they have been recklessly spending North Raleigh tax money on failed downtown projects. Enough.
The average person in North Raleigh is a smart hard working person that commutes to work, likely to the brain center known as RTP, from our nice bedroom communities and doesn’t give a hoot about city government, except to occasionally grumble and wonder what are they doing and why do they need so much of my tax money? (Another Bond or Property Tax hike? For Whaaat???)
We rarely get near downtown and have no interest. It’s 17 to 25 miles away for most of us who pay the bulk of personal taxes in Raleigh.
For 30 years I made a few vain attempts to “get involved”, only to find out that the Raleigh City Council only has public hearings (downtown) after the decisions have already been made. It’s pointless. And when they decided to extend their own terms for a year “due to COVID” they didn’t even fake a public hearing.
Now retired, I have the time. From what I figured out, based on where I live, I’m in District A (Sounds like something out of The Hunger Games?) Let’s see if we in “District A” can fix this. I’m trying to figure out all the rules to run for office. If I announce it, all the hurdles will kick in so I’ll be “the candidate to be named later” for now.
