Making the American Dream Illegal in Raleigh

Again, we simply need City Council people to be administrators. Like that great guy or girl that your company just couldn’t do without. They don’t have the skills to be a doctor, engineer, or lawyer, but your office couldn’t do without them. Your company runs better because of them and makes it a happier place.

The Raleigh City Council doesn’t get it. They actually think they know something about how we should live.   One of the best examples is our pursuit of the American Dream.

We’ve all worked hard finally getting to a position where we are working in jobs that contribute to bettering the world.  We are rewarded with good salaries for having happy customers, patients, companies who thrive because of the goods and services we offer.  It got us (or is getting us) to the American Dream:  A nice house on a piece of land that we call our own.  Yes, even a lawn and picket fence.  And a dog?  There’s no better feeling than knowing that with all that studying, working, sacrifice, relocating, and finally moving to Raleigh we finally got there.

Raleigh City Council thinks they know what is good for us.  They believe American Dream is wrong for us.  As Raleigh City Council candidate Jennifer Truman says about “fixing problems in Raleigh” to the Indy Weekly Magazine, “Some of the solutions are simple, like ending single-family zoning.”  Oh?

On July 6, 2021, the Raleigh City Council voted to “update” the city’s zoning code effectively starting the ban on single-family zoning.  To what end?  The theory is:

  1. “ to make headway against the climate and inequality crises, they must cease defending the indefensible concept of single-family zoning.”
  2. “the rule [single family zoning] is one of the reasons for its destructive social impacts, which have been documented in great detail. In brief, there’s compelling evidence that single-family zoning has damaged the environment by encouraging suburban sprawl and car reliance, worsened affordability by restricting housing supply, and undermined inclusion.”

The mayor loves killing the American dream, too.   Mary Ann Baldwin says  “Density” is what we want.  “Hey, Nancy!  We moved here to get away from Density, you dunce!”

“People said housing is the most important issue and we want to see more density,” said Baldwin. “Now you can do density without impacting neighborhoods.”

Even the “pro-downtown people” Livable Raleigh wants to recall her.   Of course, the members of the Raleigh City Council and other politicians will exempt themselves and their own neighborhoods.  Again, this woke group of people essentially are telling us that they want to ban the American Dream.  It’s a woke dream that the little people all live in Soviet-style apartments while the politicians live in the palace.

The city council needs to be simple administrators that serve our District.   Say “No” to re-zoning our suburbs into high-density ghettos to satisfy your woke agenda.   Do I need to run for City Council District A?
